So many responses by e-mail to this last blog. WHY ARE BOYS SO THREATENED BY GIRLS?, you ask. WHY ARE MEN SO THREATENED BY WOMEN?
Well, darling earth girls and women, we all know some of the reasons, and they’re deeply psychological. We’ll discuss those sometime, but for now, let’s look at what’s going on. Women are powering ahead. There are more women in the country’s law schools; more women in high positions in the workplace. YOur country is filled with high=achieving, confident, successful girls and women. Why is this hard on boys and men? Because it’s new. They were the ones who ran the workplace, ran the world, in fact. Some of these boys and men feel they’re being displaced; feel even disenfranchised–and they blame women (the women’s movement; feminism; individual girls and women) for knocking them off their rightful throne. We can’t blame these guys for feeling competitive; but the really smart ones are simply competing, not grumbling about rights that are no longer theirs.
Twenty-first century girls and women MUST surround themselves with 21st century boys and men. The ones who know it’s no longer a competition, but a conglomeration of old and new roles; old and new rules. These men say, Hey, wow! These strong women are spectacular! I’ll have a real partner in life! We’ll share our home lives, our political lives, our social lives. We’ll be real friends–equal in so many ways. Just as we are welcoming men who are more focused on their children and their home lives, and realizing that they can’t also be all=powerful at work, so are the best men (and boys) wecoming women who can focus on their work and still be the head wife and mom at home. It can be done. We all just have to change our thinking a little, and welcome the new.
