Explain to him that it isn’t a REASON but an EXCUSE. You don’t have to go out on fancy dinners and buy overpriced chocolates/flowers/gifts. Just spend the day together as an excuse to get out of something else. If you have kids, then find a sitter and have a date day/night. That is what DH and I do. The grandparents are more than willing to watch the kids for us that day so we can do what we normally can’t … like go to Barnes and browse the books!

We have date nights on a regular basis so vday is never a reason to go out or do something nice. It is an excuse to get a sitter and buy a bottle of wine and have pizza by candlelight.

🙂
